NIÑOS SOLDADO

Nada nos destruye más como sociedad y como civilización que hacer daño a nuestros menores: su sufrimiento no solo constituye el mayor ejercicio de barbarie que podamos concebir, también supone la renuncia a toda apuesta de futuro para ellos y para toda la Humanidad. Su dolor es el dolor y el fracaso de todos.

Como padre y ciudadano del mundo, el maltrato a quienes por edad y circunstancias vitales son más vulnerables me ha dejado siempre sobrecogido y helado, incapaz de reaccionar ante tamaña atrocidad. Una de las expresiones más frecuentes de abuso de los menores en todo el mundo consiste en usarlos como armamento de guerra. En Occidente no somos conscientes de la magnitud de este atropello, pero ahora mismo, mientras tú lees estas líneas, miles de niños y niñas están siendo reclutados por milicias armadas en lugares remotos para que aprendan a matar o se están viendo expuestos a situaciones violentas cuya sola visión nos dejaría a la mayoría conmocionados para el resto de nuestras vidas.

Víctimas involuntarias de conflictos ajenos, los ‘niños soldado’ constituyen una tragedia humanitaria que apela a la conciencia de todos. Para que su causa no caiga en el olvido, cada 12 de febrero se conmemora el ‘Día Internacional contra el Uso de Niños Soldado’, que recuerda que actualmente 300.000 menores están siendo utilizados como material bélico en guerras en todo el planeta.

Este año quiero unirme al clamor que promueven las entidades de protección de la infancia contra esta lacra. Con esa finalidad he creado un NFT inspirado en la imagen de una menor que invita a la vez a la emoción y la reflexión. Soy un convencido del potencial que tiene el arte para agitar conciencias y sé que a menudo un color, un trazo o un reflejo de luz pueden hacernos ver lo que las palabras y los crudos datos no consiguen comunicarnos.

El 50%  de los beneficios de este NFT irán destinados a Unicef,  que lucha desde hace años contra la ignominia que supone la presencia de menores en conflictos armados. Ojalá esta creación pueda servir para paliar en alguna medida el daño que esos niños y niñas están sufriendo ahora mismo. Su dolor es también un asunto tuyo y mío.

CHILDREN SOLDIER

Nothing destroys us more as a society and as a civilization than hurting our children: their suffering is not only the most barbaric exercise we can conceive of, it is also the renunciation of any hope for the future for them and for the whole of humanity. Their pain is the pain and failure of us all.

As a parent and a citizen of the world, the mistreatment of those who, by age and life circumstances, are most vulnerable has always left me shocked and frozen, unable to react to such an atrocity. One of the most frequent expressions of child abuse around the world is the use of children as weapons of war. We in the west are unaware of the magnitude of this outrage, but right now, as you read these lines, thousands of children are being recruited by armed militias in remote places to learn how to kill or are being exposed to violent situations the very sight of which would shock most of us for the rest of our lives.

Unwitting victims of other people’s conflicts, child soldiers are a humanitarian tragedy that appeals to everyone’s conscience. To ensure that their cause is not forgotten, every 12 February is the International Day against the Use of Child Soldiers, a reminder that 300,000 children are currently being used as war materiel in wars around the world.

This year I want to join the clamour promoted by child protection organizations against this scourge. To this end, I have created an NFT inspired by the image of a child that invites both emotion and reflection. I am convinced of the potential of art to stir consciences and I know that often a colour, a stroke or a reflection of light can make us see what words and raw data fail to communicate.

One of this NFT will be offered for 250€ and you can start to buy on Saturaday 12th from 18:00 at Spain. The 50% of the profits from its sale will go to UNICEF which has been fighting for years against the ignominy of the presence of minors in armed conflicts. Hopefully this creation can go some way to alleviating the damage that these children are suffering right now. Their pain is also yours and mine.
